What is certain anymore? In an age where everyone has access to information, fake news has become a common turn of phrase. School children see their civilisation being threatened and fight for the environment. We live in excess while the divide between privilege and discrimination continues to grow. The pandemic requires the individual to make sacrifices for the good of the whole – the very antithesis of capitalism.
Ambivalence shapes our world. We could do anything, but we don’t have to. Thousands of possibilities, thousands of supposed truths, everywhere and all at once. Commitment is dispensed with wherever there’s an alternative.
Perhaps our present has become too complex for a single soul to organise – questions remain. But with how many unanswered questions can one person live? How long can we cope? Maybe that is all part of the present – or is presenting itself to us now. We will find out. But until then nothing is certain. For anyone. No Guarantees.
